Igor Balakirev is a Russian composer, singer, and pianist from St. Petersburg. Igor studied at the St. Petersburg Imperial Academic Capella (Glinka Choral School), which was founded in the 15th century. After graduating from college, he studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory as a choir conductor. Igor holds a degree from the University of Art Culture as a pianist and music teacher. He also graduated from St. Petersburg State University, Faculty of Foreign Languages.
Igor has worked in numerous theaters in St. Petersburg as a pianist, actor, and composer, and has starred in popular Russian films and TV series. Among his works for the theater are Dostoevsky’s «The Idiot», and Bertold Brecht’s «The Good Man from Sichuan» amongst others.
He is the great-great-grand nephew of Mily Balakirev, the famous 19th century Russian composer.
Igor has released five albums of original compositions, and two of transcribed works by Alfred Karindi. He has performed these works at the Mariinsky Theatre and numerous other venues throughout Russia, as well as internationally in Europe and Asia.
His latest work “Summer Garden” for voice and chamber orchestra, was released in October 2024. Upcoming are development plans to create an artistic retreat with a recording studio in the Novgorod region, as well as work on his first opera.
